St George’s Day Celebration – UPDATED

This time last week we were preparing for our St George’s Day celebration, and what a contrast in weather! I think soup would be appropriate today 🙂

Quayside Recreation Ground Refurbishment

Hi,

I’m not sure if parents/friends of the group are aware, but Adur Council is planning to “refurbish” Quayside recreation ground, including doing some ground works/landscaping, plus improving the playground area. There are a couple of notices on the fence by the bottom gate.

Adur Council are running a consultation meeting on April 12th at Quayside between 2:30 and 4:30 open to anyone whose interested. Please have a read of the following poster from Adur Council.

PLEASE NOTE: During the last week of Phase One of the works we will have no access to our hut, and we will have to make alternative arrangements. This may include either meeting somewhere else, or cancelling the respective sections evenings programme.

The Section Leaders will keep you posted.

The numbers are in, and I’m pleased to announce that our Beaver Colony is booming (plus 13)! The Cubs numbers have dropped slightly, but that’s due to 10 Cubs recently becoming Scout age and moving on, some of which have joined our Scout Troop.

We have also gained two new Beaver Leaders this past year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope you’ve all had a great Christmas break, and ready for another exciting term at 2nd Southwick Scouts!

All sections restart next week, Cubs restarts on Tuesday 9th, and Beavers/Scouts restart on Wednesday 10th.

Subs – Please note that subs for all sections is due at the being of each term!

Parent Rota – If you can spare one or two evenings per term to help, or just be an extra pair of eyes, please speak to Louise, Paul or Steve.

Volunteering – We are always looking for a more “permanent” helpers who can give approx. 2 hours per week, to help in the evenings. Again please speak to the Section Leaders for more information, or email enquirires@secondsouthwick.org.uk

Vacancies Board – When you come in the hut, immeduately on the left there is a vacancies noticeboard, with some jobs. Please have a read and if you can help please let one of the leaders know.

Tesco Bag Packing

On Sunday 17th and Saturday 22nd December, 2nd Southwick Scout Group did some bag packing at Tescos Extra at the Holmbush Centre.

Scouts and Cubs helped shoppers with their bag packing at this busy time of year, whilst beavers held buckets for collecting money.

The funds raised will go to the general upkeep of our headquarters, but will mainly be used to cover the cost of replacewment Mess Tents that failed over the summer camping season.

A big thank you to all the Beavers, Cubs abd Scouts, as well as the Leaders/Committee Members, Mums and Dads that helped.

Your efforts are very much appreciated, thank-you!
