Group Camp & JOTT

Categories: , , , , , ,

Last weekend, 8th till 10th May, the Group had a group camp at our district camp site, Hillside, Small Dole. The Cubs and Scouts camped under canvas and the Beavers were in the bunkhouse.

On Friday evening the Scouts arrived followed by the Cubs, and help set-up camp, afterwards the cubs and Scouts did some wide games in the woods, and eventually the cubs/Scouts went to bed

On Saturday morning, after breakfast, the Beavers arrived and settled into the bunkhouse, whilst the scouts and cubs did some knots.

Saturday 9th May was also Jamboree on the Trail day, a worldwide event where scouts from across the world participate in walk/hike celebrating the worldwide Scouting communitee. Our idea was for all sections to leave together, have a packed lunch in the nearby Tottington Woods, and continue the walk. Sadly the weather was against us in the early part of the afternoon, so it was decided to have our packed lunch at Hillside while waiting for the weather to go by. The weather eventually improved and we headed off.

We walked together for some of route and at various points, the beavers peeled off, followed by the Cubs, just leaving the Scouts. It was nice to see the whole group together, walking across the Sussex Countryside.

We all eventually completed our walks and had a well earned evening meal of roast chicken, followed by a camp fire, with some traditional camp fires songs and stunts provided by the Scouts.

On Sunday, we all had a lovely breakfast, followed by packing our belongings away and tidying up. The Beavers/Cubs and Scouts did some wide games, a tug of war competition, followed by another knotting session.

After lunch, it was time to pack the tents away and start to think about heading home

It was a great camp, despite the rain on Friday evening/Saturday morning, and I believe all the young people enjoyed themselves.

A VERY BIG thank you to all the leaders who helped, as without them there would have been no camp, and a lot of hungry campers. Here’s to next year!
